Standing Alone
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
II Timothy 1:7
Last Monday, our Bright Lights meeting was about Standing Alone. We have now reached the end of Set 4! I can hardly believe how fast it’s gone, but I’m anxiously looking forward to all the Lord will continue to teach us. J
As the conclusion to a Set on Holiness, we talked about how important it is to be able to stand alone. We will not be able to apply any of the things we have learned if we are not courageous in our walk with Christ.
A lot of people fear a lot of different things… pain, death, the dark etc.
One common fear among girls (and everyone!) is the fear of man. God’s Word tells us very clearly that we must not fear man, but fear God.
“The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe.”
Proverbs 29:25
If our heart’s desire is to live fully set apart for Jesus Christ, we will surely face opposition.
“Yeah, and all who will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.”
II Timothy 3:12
But we know that even though we are called to Stand Alone in this world, we are not alone.
We are standing with Jesus Christ! He is faithful!
Commitments and resolutions can tend to take the place of the true work of Christ in our hearts. We must believe the truth of the Cross of Jesus Christ, and know that through His redemption we no longer have to serve sin.
Our own goals and strivings must be surrendered to His Cross. We must die to our flesh and the strength we think we have must be yielded to the Lord.
“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me.”
Galatians 2:20
Then He can use us as vessels for His use!
That’s a very brief overview of the lesson from last week J
I also read the girls a short story about Susannah Spurgeon, the wife of Charles H. Spurgeon. It was encouraging to read how she yielded her many years of sickness to the Lord! He used her and her “Book Fund” to bless many pastors across the nation.
Grace brought us chocolate dipped strawberries and Allie made pound cake! Topped with whipped cream, it was a delightful treat with our tea!
Below are the Prayer Points and some extra verses from our meeting. J
Prayer points for Standing Alone
Pray that
v God would give us courage, strength and boldness to follow His ways
v We would not have a spirit of fear
v We would learn the fear of the Lord, and uphold His reputation before our own
v We would be faithful to pray for each other to remain strong for the Lord!
v Ask your prayer partner if they have a specific prayer request. Write it here:
Memory verse:
“For God hath not given us a spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
II Timothy 1:7
“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”
Joshua 1:9
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
Romans 1:16
“For whosoever shall be ashamed of Me and of My words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when He shall come in His own glory, and in His Father’s, and of the holy angels.”
Luke 9:26
“Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice, inasmuch as you are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that when His glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. If ye be reproached for the Name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part He is evil spoken of, but on your part He is glorified…
But if any of you suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.”
I Peter 4:12-14, 16
“Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.”
Matthew 5:10-12
“But I say unto you, love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you;”
Matthew 5:44
Bibles for China
Recently, my mom heard a radio broadcast about the great need to send Bibles to our brothers and sisters in China. Through Bibles for China, you can send two Bibles for just $5!
As a Bright Lights group, we are going to start by collecting loose change and see how the Lord will multiply it!
If you would like to read more, or support the ministry, please visit http://biblesforchina.wordpress.com/
well….
Dear Friends,
As you can see, I am not a blogger at heart. Writing has never been a strong-point with me; that, coupled with a lack of diligence has left us with a rather empty blog!
I hope to write an entry after our next meeting, and then maybe let you know what the Lord is doing in our Bright Lights group!
I also plan on posting some pictures of activities and crafts we’ve done in the past year.
Happy Spring!
Love in Christ,
Olivia
